Where to start

dvd-start-blog-imageAs I start to type, I suppose this is where I inevitably end up listing a version of my ever-changing list of Top 10 favourite films but I’ll try to be a bit broader than that.

OK, let’s get the Starter for Ten out of the way. If you haven’t watched The Godfather or The Godfather Part II then I must simply take a short pause and then strongly urge you to.

Right, that’s a start, let’s move on.

Apocalypse Now (1979 version) could be in there too but now I’m doing what I said I wouldn’t.

I’ll tell you a really good film that you might not have seen and that’s Double Indemnity, an old Billy Wilder movie from the mid-40s. Just excellent.

Gilda is also superb. Witty dialogue from an era when studios had proper stars.

Kick-Ass is brilliant and if you’ve not got round to seeing The Social Network that’s very good indeed.

I need to find a more structured way to approach this, it’s clearly one of those blog posts that could become a series along the lines of, “Great Films from the 60s / 70s / 80s…”

Let me know if you’ve got favourites you feel stand up to repeat viewing.

  1. Perhaps I need extensive therapy but I still love watching (again and again and…well you get the idea): Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, and of course Risky Business (can’t bring myself to apologise or explain the last one…character flaw I guess).

    • Yes, absolutely. Shawshank’s a very good call, and Pulp Fiction too, even though it has put me off ever having a gold watch….
